Well, I did mention another particular SEO pillar that most people don’t talk about. Well, that’s local SEO. Some people refer to this as a pillar.

Some people don’t, and it’s quite a debate within the SEO community. However, we do consider local SEO a full pillar in itself. This is because there’s slightly different work involved when building content, building links, and optimizing a local business website.

Seo Pillar Local Seo | Google My Business

What’s involved in local SEO? The first and most undoubtedly essential part of local SEO is to have a Google My Business listing or a GMB profile as it’s sometimes called.

Now, this means, and you’ve probably seen it before. If you were searching such as ‘coffee,’ for example, depending on where you are in the world, Google would show you what’s known as the ‘snack pack’ or the ‘three pack’.

There are a few different words for it. Still, it’s basically when you see a map version, and you see a few other businesses listed, and you’ve got the option to click on their website, or you can call them, or in some cases, you can view their menu or book an appointment with them. It all depends on what kind of business they run, but all of this information is there because those people have set up and optimized their Google My Business profile; this is free to do, this is how you can be put on Google maps.

And basically, it means that when somebody is searching for something you provide in your area, which is also their area, well, they’re able to see exactly where you are. This puts your business on the map, literally.

Once you’ve also set up your Google My Business profile and you’ve optimized it correctly. The next part that you should move on to and the next section that we’re going to learn about in your local SEO pillar is to create location-targeted landing pages.

Now, what I mean by this is if you’re, for example, a chiropractor. You’re based in Boston, make content and make a page all about ‘Chiropractor in Boston,’ because you have to remember that if somebody is searching that they are searching for, and need to use, a chiropractor in Boston.

If you have a page dedicated to that, and that’s what somebody searches, Google’s going to connect those dots reasonably quickly, and Google is going to show your website to people in the search results.

If you’ve optimized it correctly, someone’s going to click on that website. And then they’ll more likely contact you fill out an inquiry form, whatever you have set up on your website, and that will lead to them becoming a paying customer.

Now, if you offer a few different things within your business, I would recommend creating dedicated landing pages for all of those. So, for example, with the chiropractor we just mentioned, you might have a page about ‘how to get rid of back pain in Boston,’ or it might be something such as ‘neck pain in Boston’ because there are different parts that a chiropractor can do.

So depending on the services you offer and the locations that you provide those services, well, then I’d create pages for that because these are the kinds of things people will search. And the last thing to learn about within local SEO is to develop local business citations.

The reason for this is, again, it just helps Google further connect the dots. Now basically, a local business citation is you’ve probably seen many different business directories, such as Yelp. Many other local businesses are listed, depending on whatever you’re looking for, whatever service you need, whatever city you need that in.

There are loads of different websites where you can put in your information, such as your phone number, where you’re located, your website, your email address, all of this sort of stuff. Now, the more of these websites you can have your information on, the better.

And the reason for that is because it gives other trust signals to Google, so that when someone searches, for example, ‘chiropractor in Boston’, if you’re also listed on all these other pages.

They’ll not only be mentioned, but They’ll also, in most cases, have links to your website as well, which can help Google and other search engines further connect the dots. Having links to your website from these things also shows us how to connect your local SEO with your technical SEO.

So even in this case, the pillars of SEO are still helping each other connect and still boosting each other up. Now, in most cases, these links will be ‘NoFollow‘ links. And basically, that means they won’t pass page authority to you.
